The Vice Lord-Lieutenant joins Service Value Awards

Celebrating Excellence at the Bedfordshire Fire & Rescue Service Values Awards

The Bedfordshire Lieutenancy warmly congratulates Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service on a successful and inspiring Values Awards celebration evening, held on 29 January 2026 at Cranfield University. 

The annual event recognises the outstanding dedication and commitment of staff who embody the Service’s core values and make a real difference to the communities of Bedfordshire. Around 90 staff members and guests gathered in Mitchell Hall to celebrate colleagues who had been nominated for their exceptional work and commitment. 

The Vice Lord-Lieutenant Christopher Sharwood-Smith attended the event alongside other special guests including The High Sheriff of Bedfordshire Camilla King and members of the Bedfordshire Fire Authority, and senior representatives from local emergency services. 

The evening showcased a wide range of achievements, from innovation and operational excellence to compassion and community support. Categories included We Are AccountableWe’ve Got Your BackEvery Contact Counts and Dare to Be Different, with both individual and team winners recognised for their contributions. 

Highlights included the work of the Operational Assurance team for service-wide improvements, outstanding customer care by Control White and Green Watch during major flooding, and exceptional leadership and community support from individuals such as Gill Pritchett, Watch Commander Craig Carter, Wendy Williams and Watch Commander Haydon Littlewood. 

The event also celebrated the achievements of cadets, with George Whitehurst honoured with the Chris Page Cadet Award for his strong leadership, dedication and enthusiasm. 

The Lieutenancy congratulates all nominees and winners and thanks all involved for their service and contributions to safety, resilience and community life across Bedfordshire.
