Join The Bedfordshire Lieutenancy in celebrating and commemorating VE Day

Members of the public, alongside representatives of The Bedfordshire Lieutenancy will be celebrating and commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day across the county.

HM The Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire alongside HM Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire and Deputy Lieutenants will join various events across the county to celebrate and commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. 

VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day marks the end of World War II in Europe. On Thursday 8th May 2025 members of the public will join together in celebrating and remembering the legacy of those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the United Kingdom and the end of the atrocities of World War II. 

Flag Raisings

Representatives from The Bedfordshire Lieutenancy will be joining flag raising's in the following areas: 

  • Renhold, Bedford Borough 
  • Fairfield, Central Bedfordshire
  • Harpur Square, Bedford Borough

Church Service

Representatives from The Bedfordshire Lieutenancy will be joining church services in the following areas:

  • Clapham, Bedford Borough
  • Arlesey, Central Bedfordshire
  • Luton, Luton Council

Wreath Laying 

Representatives from The Bedfordshire Lieutenancy will be laying wreaths in the following areas:

  • Renhold, Bedford Borough

Beacon Lighting 

Representatives from The Bedfordshire Lieutenancy will be joining beacon lighting events in the following areas:

  • Podington, Bedford Borough
  • Leighton Linslade, Central Bedfordshire
  • Clapham and Oakley, Bedford Borough
  • Ampthill, Central Bedfordshire
  • Renhold, Bedford Borough
  • Toddington, Central Bedfordshire
  • Potton, Central Bedfordshire
  • Houghton Regis, Central Bedfordshire
  • Clifton, Central Bedfordshire

Alongside these Bedfordshire based events, The Royal Family will be attending and participating in the following events: 

Tuesday 6th May - HM The Queen will visit the Tower of London to view a new display of ceramic poppies. 

Thursday 8th May - The Majesties, joined by Members of the Royal Family, will attend a Service of Thanksgiving at Westminster Abbey and a celebratory VE Day Concert at Horse Guards Parade. 

Friday - Sunday 10th May - The Princess Royal, accompanied by Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, will make the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Guernsey and Sark in the Channel Islands.
